Cherrie Liu (they/them) is a queer musician and versatile guitarist from Hong Kong. Currently based in the SF/Bay Area, they are pursuing a B.A. in Performing Arts & Social Justice with a music concentration, and minoring in Philosophy and Media Studies in the University of San Francisco. In addition to Cherrie's avid passion for finger-style guitar, their other artistic practices include singing, songwriting, playing in rock bands and producing their original music.

Aside from their solo endeavors, Cherrie is driven by the creative synergy and fulfillment in collaborative music-making experiences back home. As a member of HKBGCA Band Union, they have performed in multiple nonprofit community gigs with their band ANON since 2020. Cherrie has also had the opportunity to perform in the 2023 Yan Chai Transworld Charity Ball alongside notable local artists such as Mike Tsang and JNY Beatz.

What first drew Cherrie to their artistic practice was the intimacy and comfort that music brought them during difficult times, and how finger-style guitar could elicit intense emotions without the need for verbal expression at all. They have since been committed to generating music revolving mental health that offers healing and solace, the same way that it did for them. In recent years, Cherrie has also channeled their artistic voice into causes for social justice activism, in particular the struggle against Chinese authoritarian censorship threatening the loss of Hong Kong’s culture, autonomies and democratic freedoms.
